AfterCare is Bennett Day School's late-day program. Monday through Thursday, AfterCare begins at 3:15pm and is available until 6:00pm. On Fridays, AfterCare begins at 12:00pm and is available until 6:00pm. Below are some of the activities your children have been participating in since the start of our program!
Indoor/Outdoor Play and Games
Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of games during AfterCare that typically take place outside at Trio Park and in the indoor play space. PreK, JK, and SK students participate in AfterCare, and games have been a great way for the children to get to know each other and have some fun. Now that fall has arrived, outdoor play is an exciting time for the children to explore the changes in the weather and the environment. We plan on getting the children outside as much as possible!
Yoga
Students practice yoga on a regular basis. The goal for our students is to enhance their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. We also aim to improve their concentration and mindfulness, while practicing relaxation techniques to cultivate calmness. We use a variety of items throughout the session, such as books, balls, music, and eye bags. We want the experience to be fun and casual, but beneficial as well!
Spanish
I am proficient in Spanish, therefore, I enjoy integrating the learning of this language in the AfterCare program. For example, during snack the students are encouraged to continue using the words they learned that day from Senorita Harpole, our full-time Spanish instructor. Spanish is also incorporated when the students are getting dressed to go outside, playing a game, or noticing something at the park, such as a dog or a family; they say a word in English and I repeat the word in Spanish.
Classroom Exploration
This is a great time for the AfterCare students to explore other classrooms and take advantage of the unique materials each room has to offer. Students explore on their own or with their peers.
Stories
Every day before we sit down for snack in the Tinker Lab, we read a story aloud to the group. We also enjoy using the projectors in the classrooms to play childrens' picture books on video. The videos always show the words in very big print, which makes it easy and fun for the students to follow along. A website that we often use is TumbleBooks.
