The children enjoyed learning a little bit about the violin, or the fiddle. Ms. Jessica taught them how to properly hold and pluck the instrument. They were all very patient while each child took his/her turn.
Below is a short video of Ms. Jessica playing the fiddle!
We had a new teacher, Ms. Patty, come and teach music for the last two classes. She and the children sang a lot of new songs, played some new instruments, and danced around the room! One of their favorite instruments was the ukulele.
Thanks to Ms. Jessica's instruction, the children have mastered the meaning of a quarter note and an eighth note. She used the term "ta" to represent quarter notes and the term "te-te" to represent eighth notes. Hover over the images for a short description of what you're viewing.
Playing exotic instruments is an integral part of music class. Ms. Jessica taught the children about ensembles, but in particular they learned about gamelan, which is traditional ensemble music of Java and Bali in Indonesia. They even had the chance to play their own! For a chance to learn more about gamelan, click HERE.
Ms. Jessica has continued teaching the students about the musical vocabulary words, largo and presto. To review, largo is another word for slow and presto is another word for fast. Since week one, Ms. Jessica has introduced several new instruments to the class, which they have used to play largo and presto beats. Play the video below for an example!
Some of the new instruments include:
Never miss the chance to dance! The students love dancing around the room with scarves.
We are very excited to introduce Jessica Solares from Bucktown Music to Bennett Day School! Our first class was a big success and we are looking forward to the next several weeks together. Parents, if you provided Jessica with your email address, you should have received an email from Kindermusik prompting you to register to receive the Kindermusik@Home class music album and activities. From a computer, you can download the music, ebook, lyrics and activities. From a tablet or smartphone, you can stream the music, ebook and activities. This is a great resource to use at home with your child.
The class theme for the next several weeks is transportation. To begin their first class, the students learned two musical vocabulary words for tempo: largo and presto; largo is another word for slow and presto is another word for fast. They used instruments to play largo and presto beats, and they made largo and presto movements with their bodies. The students also learned how to draw a quarter note and an eighth note. Take a look at the photo album below!
